Cerberus Capitol Management LP announced yesterday that it has reached a preliminary agreement to acquire Safeway Inc. for more than $9 billion. The deal is still subject to approval from Safeway's board and the Federal Trade Commission.

We will continue monitoring the situation closely. In the meantime, we will refrain from jumping to any conclusions.

Our members at Vons, Pavilions and Vons Meat Service Center continue to work under a Collective Bargaining Agreement that protects their jobs, wages, benefits and work rules. The company has an obligation to meet with the UFCW before any changes are made.
